For my final project I wanted to create a microphone stand, particularly one that when not in use, isn't just a piece of technology I put away and let gather dust but can actually function as a nice desk decoration. My first step consisted of gathering images and reference material, sketching out what I wanted to create and how it would all fit together. Other than the lighthouse itself as a visual look, the most important piece was the one that would attach to the microphone itself, which I measured and did a test print of bellow. Though imperfect, it came out much better than I expected, the key flaws being that I neglected to take into account some protruding branding on the back making the fit far tighter than intended, which I will have to amend in future adjustments. My biggest regret is not giving myself enough time to print off this piece, the lighthouse itself ending up to be very big comparatively and had a far bigger printing time that I estimated, leading to it being un...

My tessellation took quite a bit of finessing to get right, for whatever reason my head got quite confused on how to make everything line up and match. I think the curves are successful, though one thing I wish I changed would be the top and bottom. Although I wish they could connect to show one consistent wave, I was worried about the lines being incomplete curves rather than a singular shape. The shape was inspired specifically by clouds, ocean waves, and the curve of my logo's jaw where I thought the rounded flow would fit nicely alongside it

I decided on these two thumbnails, and though I wish I had time to recreate them both, I had to settle for only one and chose the slightly simpler design as my biggest struggle in Rhino is still using the arc tool. My workspace is often quite a mess as seen here, constant guidelines and measurements as I refine the design and work on making everything visually even, wanting a much more graphic approach than my usual much more organic work. Overall I'm honestly very happy with how the final came out and actually wish to potentially use it as my legitimate logo on my portfolio, though one issue I do take with it is the visual complexity by the thigh compared to the simpler chest and neck area, making the thickness and composition a little unbalanced.

The first thing I started out with in terms of generating concepts was making a number of basic shapes and trying to visualize how to fill them, although a good idea, my execution was sorely lacking and it was only after I began to look at various logo examples that I thought to potentially do an animal. I adore fantasy and one symbol I felt could work well was a unicorn, both as a nod to the genre and a personal aspect considering as a kid I loved them, something I have only recently even begin to reconcile with.

The biggest challenge I had with this project came from the fourth shape and the sixth shape, I struggled with the arc tool a lot and I still think I'm figuring it out, though the last shape I had a problem with the offset tool thinking I needed to select the circles as well, it was a bit of a silly realization when I found out it wasn't asking for that. Getting help from my classmates was my saving grace.
